Common Furnace Problems We Repair in Cambridge

Endless Energy’s expert furnace repair services can help you resolve some of the most common furnace frustrations.

  • No heat. A furnace that won’t heat your home is useless and is probably costing you on every energy bill. If you’re sick of layering up due to chilly temperatures indoors, our team can diagnose and repair your furnace problem in just a few hours.
  • Inconsistent heating. Another common sign of a furnace issue is inconsistent heating, resulting in warm and cool spots throughout the house. We can determine if the issue is with your furnace’s blower motor, ductwork, or elsewhere in the system, and clean and repair it to get your entire space warmed up again.
  • Short-cycling. When your furnace constantly switches off and on without ever reaching your desired home temperature, it’s known as short-cycling. This common issue prevents your home from getting warm, puts excess wear on your system, and drives up energy costs.
  • Strange sounds. Some noise is normal while running your furnace. However, if you’re noticing loud banging, grinding, scraping, hissing, or squealing, it’s time to contact a professional for residential furnace repair services.
  • Pilot light and ignition issues. Your furnace likely relies on a pilot light or an electrical igniter to function. If there’s an issue with this component, it can prevent the system from running effectively (or at all). Ignition issues may also pose a risk of a dangerous gas leak with specific systems.
  • Thermostat malfunctions. Another common furnace issue we repair is issues with the thermostat. Bad connections, a malfunctioning sensor, or a failing power supply to your thermostat can cause your furnace to act up. Our team can diagnose the thermostat and either repair or replace it.

Signs Your Furnace Needs Repair

Understanding the most common signs that your furnace needs repairs means you’ll be able to get the necessary services earlier, preventing increased heating bills and further damage to your system. If you’re dealing with any of the following issues, contact a heating repair pro right away:

  • Strange, loud noises while running the furnace
  • Rising energy bills with no change in usage
  • Inconsistent heating throughout the home
  • No heat coming from the unit
  • Smoky or musty odors
  • Pilot light is yellow instead of blue
  • Poor indoor air quality (IAQ) while running furnace
  • Short-cycling
  • Thermostat reading isn’t accurate
  • Furnace won’t turn on

Emergency Furnace Repairs: What Qualifies and When To Call

Sometimes, furnace problems can’t wait, and you need emergency furnace repairs. Our team is available 24/7 for urgent issues. Generally, if you’re experiencing a major furnace issue, such as a shutdown or inadequate heating during the winter months, it qualifies as an emergency.

Beyond shutdowns and poor heating, a failing pilot light or a gas leak are both considered serious emergencies. If you suspect a gas leak from your system, close the gas valve, ventilate the house, and evacuate to a safe location outside until an emergency furnace repair technician can inspect your unit.

Even a single day without proper heating during a Cambridge winter can be extremely uncomfortable. Don’t let your mornings feel like stepping into a freezer — contact a repair professional to diagnose and resolve the issue today.

Furnace Repair vs. Replacement?

How do you know when it’s time to replace your furnace instead of continuing to repair it? Typically, furnaces last 10 to 15 years with proper maintenance. If your unit is older than that, you’ll not only get better reliability with a new model, but you’ll also be saving money thanks to modern furnace efficiency standards. While energy-efficient furnace repairs can also save you on energy costs, there’s a limit to how much you can optimize an aging furnace.

If your furnace isn’t yet at the 10-year mark, it’s probably worth investing in repairs for a few years longer to ensure you’re getting the most out of your system.

How Regular Maintenance Prevents Furnace Breakdowns

The best way to fix a furnace is to prevent it from breaking down in the first place. We offer thorough, professional furnace maintenance services to help catch problems early on and prevent them from becoming major heating issues. Annual heating maintenance can save you hundreds on residential or commercial furnace repair or thousands on the cost of a new system, all while enhancing energy efficiency and extending the overall lifespan of your furnace.

FAQs: Endless Energy Cambridge Furnace Repair

Can a furnace be repaired the same day?

Yes. In most cases, we can repair a furnace in a single day, depending on the issue. Most furnace fixes take just a few hours to complete. If your repairs are expected to take longer than a day, we’ll let you know upfront.

How much does furnace repair usually cost in Cambridge?

The cost of furnace repair in Cambridge varies depending on the issue, the type of furnace, your location, and the accessibility of the unit itself. We offer transparent pricing, so there are no surprises on your final bill.

Why is my furnace running but not heating?

If your furnace is running but not heating your home, it might be due to a clogged air filter, a failing blower motor, or blocked HVAC ducts. A heating repair pro can diagnose the issue and get your home warmed up again.

How often should I service my furnace?

We recommend having your system professionally serviced at least once a year for optimal reliability, efficiency, and system lifespan. It’s a good idea to have your furnace serviced in the fall, before you rely on the system daily.

Does furnace repair improve energy efficiency?

Yes, furnace repair can improve energy efficiency. Continuing to run a damaged or malfunctioning system means it has to work harder to heat your home, consuming much more energy for a poor heating result.

Eydin gomez was very good at it
I contracted endless energy to install a hybrid heating and cooling system in my house this summer. Due to the age and layout of my house we went with fully ducted upstairs and downstairs. It took about 2 weeks for the team to setup and install everything- roughly from the late-middle of July to the start of August.

In terms of pricing, endless energy was much more reasonable than many other companies we received quotes from. They were often significantly cheaper-their price for full ductwork was only slightly more than other companies quotes for minisplit/wallunits. Also, I appreciated that they handle the masssave rebate process themselves and automatically deduct it from the costs. I’ve heard horror stories from people whose paperwork got lost or misfiled and that lost them their rebate; so it was nice to not have to worry about that. I’d like to specifically mention and praise Nick Sherman, who worked with us to get our quote. He was fantastically helpful throughout the process and was incredibly accommodating in working around our parental leave schedules.

As mentioned above, the work took about 2 weeks and was done by the team of Anthony Bullens, Gage Conroy-LaBoeuf, and Cameron Nolette. They did excellent work and worked incredibly hard to get the job done as rapidly as possible. This was especially notable as they were doing the attic work in >90° July weather.

I’d review the materials used but I lack the technical expertise to do so. I can say that, despite what I read online, the Bryant outdoor unit has not been a significant source of noise.

On the customer service side, I’d say there were times that communications got a bit scrambled/lost in rounds of back-and-forth. I think that was largely due to July/august being a busy time of year for them and a specific issue discussed more below.

Their commitment to ensuring I was satisfied with the job is especially commendable. As with any type of job like this, there were a few issues that popped up shortly after the job ended and endless energy had people there within a few days to help fix and diagnose the issues. One issue was particularly difficult to figure out (and was the cause of the back-and-forth mentioned above) but they continued to assist us long after the initial job was completed until we found a working solution.

I would strongly recommend endless energy for electrifying heating/cooling systems and I would recommend the specific people listed above be requested as point-people for any such projects
Gaven was totally awesome he fixed our water tank very well he was perfessional I would recommend him again
Hunter and JT installed my new heat pump. They were very professional throughout the entire process. They were punctual and worked diligently. They completely cleaned up after themselves, showed me how my new thermostat works, set me up with the app, and answered any questions I had. I would highly recommend them!
Daniel Hagerstrom from Endless Energy did an excellent HEAT Program audit. Knowledgeable, reasonable, and efficient.
