Why We No Longer Install Fujitsu Heat Pumps

In 2019 and 2020, Endless Energy was the single largest installer of Fujitsu mini splits and ducted heat pumps in Massachusetts. In 2025, we’re still listed as a Fujitsu Elite Plus contractor.

Fujitsu was a brand we believed in. It offered excellent efficiency, was relatively easy to install (reducing the risk of install errors), and came at a price point that worked for many homeowners. But as Fujitsu transitions from systems using 410A refrigerant to new models using R-32, we’ve made the tough decision to stop offering the brand.

So what happened?

Here are four key reasons the Endless Energy team made the decision to walk away from a brand we’ve installed for almost a decade.

1. Significant Manufacturing Issues

Starting in Q3 of 2023, we began tracking quality concerns on new Fujitsu installs. From late 2023 through early 2024, we saw a startling trend: roughly 1 in 3 systems had a mechanical issue right out of the box.

To us, an HVAC system is one of the most important—and expensive—investments a homeowner will make. The last thing a customer wants to hear is, “Your unit is defective and we need to order a part,” before they’ve even used it.

Even more concerning: Fujitsu systems quickly became our top source of service calls in early 2024. While we installed more of these systems than any other brand, the issues—especially with control boards (PCB boards) and fans—far outpaced those we saw with Mitsubishi, LG, Bryant, or Custom Comfort Systems.

2. Price Point No Longer Competitive

In 2024, Midea shook up the Massachusetts market by launching a white-label heat pump platform now sold under brands like Bryant DuctlessCustom Comfort, and Durastar.

These systems often match or exceed Fujitsu’s efficiency ratings and, before new tariffs on Chinese products, were priced around 20% lower. With customers and energy incentives increasingly focused on value and performance, Fujitsu just wasn’t as competitive anymore.

3. Subpar Technical Support

The most frustrating issue for our team has been Fujitsu’s lack of timely and effective tech support, even for Elite contractors.

Here’s how it typically goes: A service tech arrives at a customer’s home, diagnoses the issue, and calls Fujitsu to get a case number so parts will be covered under warranty. And then… they wait. Often for hours.

One of our techs, Chad, once waited two full days for a callback—only to be told he needed to be at the unit right then or start the process over. Apparently, Fujitsu expected him to sleep at the customer’s house for 48 hours?

Worse yet: A homeowner who had issues every year with their system (installed before I owned Endless Energy) left us a 1-star review after three scheduled site visits with a Fujitsu rep were canceled by the manufacturer. We had no control over the situation, but our reputation took the hit. I’ve attached it below!

4. Availability and Inventory Gaps

In 2021, supply chain disruptions hit most HVAC brands hard—and Fujitsu was no exception. At the time, we got creative by stockpiling equipment and bringing on new partners like LG (whose performance and reliability we quickly came to appreciate).

But in 2025, we hit another wall: Fujitsu informed us that no air handlers would be available for summer due to the refrigerant transition to R-32. And most distributors were already out of 410A models. For us, that was a nonstarter.

Even though their ducted systems weren’t our top choice, they were still part of our portfolio—especially since over half of our customers choose ducted systems. Facing another round of shortages due to poor planning was not something we were willing to repeat.

But…We Still Service Fujitsu Systems

Just because we’re no longer recommending or installing Fujitsu heat pumps doesn’t mean we don’t service them.

In fact, because of our long history with the brand, we’re usually able to diagnose and repair Fujitsu issues quickly—especially once we get a case number from tech support and can access parts.

We also regularly help homeowners whose systems were installed by contractors without a full-service team. If you have a Fujitsu system that needs repair, don’t hesitate to contact us at 508-233-8462. Don’t hesitate to call us – we know how to navigate the challenging path!
