💸 How to Stack Mass Save® Rebates and Federal Tax Credits for a Heat Pump—Before They Shrink!
Thinking about installing a heat pump system in your Massachusetts home and looking to save? Then this is the blog you want to read—because right now, there’s a limited-time window where you can stack $10,000 of Mass Save® rebates and a $2,000 federal tax credit to save up to $12,000 on your new system.
But here’s the deal: both of these incentives are changing after December 31, 2025. And not in a good way.
Let’s walk through what’s available, how they stack, and why waiting could cost you.

Toggle🏠 First Up: What’s the Mass Save® Heat Pump Rebate?
Mass Save’s heat pump rebate program is one of the best in the country. If you’re upgrading to a qualifying heat pump with a contractor like Endless Energy (that’s us), you could be looking at:
- $3,000 per ton up to $10,000 for a whole-home system that replaces your old oil, gas, electric resistance, or propane setup*
- $1,250 per ton for partial systems that allow you to switch over to your oil, gas, electric resistance, or propane heating system.
- Plus 0% interest financing through the HEAT Loan for eligible customers
*Income eligible incentives are also available – ask one of our Comfort Advisors during a no-cost HVAC consultation or Energy Specialist during your no-cost Mass Save Home Energy Assessment.
Now here’s where it gets urgent:
🚨 After December 31, 2025, that $10,000 max Mass Save whole home heat pump rebate drops to $9,000.
So if you’ve been on the fence, don’t wait too long—you’ll literally lose $1,000 just by putting it off until January.
💰 What’s This $2,000 Federal Tax Credit All About?
It’s called the 25C Energy Efficient Home Improvement Tax Credit, and it lets you claim 30% of the installed cost of a qualifying heat pump, capped at $2,000 per year. And yes, that’s in addition to your Mass Save rebate.
But here’s the kicker:
⏳ The 25C tax credit is going away after December 31, 2025.
A new federal law—nicknamed the “One Big Beautiful Bill”—is cutting it off. If your system isn’t fully installed by the end of this year, you’re out of luck.
🤔 Can You Really Stack Both?
Yes, you absolutely can! And that’s where Endless Energy comes in. The key is making sure the system you install meets both Mass Save and federal efficiency requirements. Generally speaking to qualify your equipment must be Energy Star rated as a cold climate heat pump.
At Endless Energy we focus on high-efficiency cold climate heat pump equipment from brands like Mitsubishi, LG, and Daiken, and we’ll walk you through exactly what qualifies—and what doesn’t. We also take the Mass Save rebate upfront to reduce your out of pocket cost.
💡 A Real-World Example
We just met with Jody in Newton, Massachusetts last week, who is moving forward with a whole-home heat pump system comes to $21,793.
- Mass Save Rebate: $10,000
- Federal Tax Credit: $2,000
- Total Savings: $12,000
- Jody’s Net Cost: $9,397
- Monthly Payment with a 0% HEAT Loan*: Just $111.86
That’s a serious return—and it gets even better when you consider your potential energy savings down the road.
But if Jody waited until 2026? She’d lose $1,000 from Mass Save and the entire $2,000 federal credit. That’s $3,000 gone, just for waiting. Jody’s monthly payment would now be $147.58!
*Assumes customer applies $2000 tax credit immediately towards the loan balance.
